Toronto, ON, March 10, 2017: Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) is pleased that the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario have reached a health funding agreement that will include $1.9 billion in support of mental health initiatives. CMHO, which represents nearly 100 child and youth community mental health centers in Ontario, is working to be included at the table in the coming weeks with governments and other partners in mental health and addictions to help lend our voice and expertise in the sector to develop performance indicators and mechanisms for annual reporting and to help them to develop a detailed plan on how these funds will be spent, over and above existing Ontario health programming.
We are very pleased that a goal of this new funding is to reduce the long wait times for mental health services for children and youth and to improve care. CMHO has previously submitted a plan to the province of Ontario on reducing wait times for mental health services for children and youth and to improve overall care and coordination of services which we hope will be supported with this new funding.
